A student at Michigan State University in 2005 had a ruptured appendix and did not stay in the hospital over night but the cost was over $18,000.

Another student hurt her finger and needed a $4,000 surgery plus hospital cost but the doctors would not do it because she had no insurance.  Her finger healed straight but now she cannot bend it.
